St. John Bosco
Feast Day: January 31
Patron of: Apprentices, Schoolchildren,
Magicians, and Juvenile Delinquents
John grew up in Italy and at a young age got to witness a group of circus performers. He was captivated by their tricks and realized that if he could learn some tricks, he could captivate others. He had a heart for the poor boys in the streets and used magic tricks to get their attention. He used to perform a trick where he turned three separate ropes
into a single rope to illustrate the mystery of the Blessed Trinity. After each show he would recite a homily. He eventually founded the Salesians of Don Bosco, whose main focus is the care and education of children.
