Even when life feels buried, Christ is already calling you back to life.
This Fifth Sunday of Lent delivers one of the most powerful moments in all of Scripture: the raising of Lazarus (John 11:1–45). But as Fr. Jonathan Meyer reminds us, this isn’t just a miracle story—it’s a blueprint for how Jesus brings life into the places we’ve given up on.
Here’s what stands out this week:
-
“Nothing is impossible with God” (Ezekiel 37)
Dry bones. Dead ends. Hopeless situations. God’s specialty is resurrection. -
“With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption” (Psalm 130)
No matter how far gone something seems, God’s mercy runs deeper. -
“The Spirit…will give life to your mortal bodies” (Romans 8:11)
You’re not doing this alone. The same Spirit that raised Jesus is alive in you. -
“I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25)
Jesus doesn’t just bring life—He is Life.
Fr. Meyer offers a striking lens: this Gospel reflects the reality of marriage—and really, every relationship.
First, there’s belief and trust (“Do you believe this?”).
Then, inevitably, there’s death—moments of hurt, struggle, or distance.
But Jesus doesn’t avoid those moments. He enters them. He even weeps.
And then comes the miracle.
Not just Lazarus walking out of the tomb—but Jesus commanding:
“Untie him and let him go.”
That line hits home.
How often do we keep others “bound” by past mistakes?
How often do we assume something—or someone—is too far gone?
Jesus says otherwise.
Whether it’s a struggling marriage, a broken friendship, or your own spiritual life, this Gospel is a bold reminder:
👉 If Jesus can raise Lazarus, He can raise anything.
But He invites us to participate—
to roll away the stone,
to believe,
and to let others be free.
