Give to God What Is God's: More Than Just Money

You're Invited to Heaven's Feast. But Are You Ready to Show Up? Reading Give to God What Is God's: More Than Just Money 3 minutes

What do your wallet, your soul, and your Sunday schedule have in common? They all belong to God!

This week on All Set for Sunday, Fr. Jonathan Meyer joins Scott and Jeff for the Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time, bringing along a surprise guest: his good friend, Italian priest Fr. Paolo!

Between Italian lessons, plenty of laughs, and a heroic rabbit rescue story, the conversation tackles a powerful question: What does it really mean to give God what belongs to Him?

Whose Image Do You Bear?

In this Sunday's Gospel (Matthew 22:15–21), the Pharisees try to trap Jesus with a question about paying taxes to Caesar. Jesus responds with a challenge that goes far beyond money: "Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God" (Matthew 22:21).

Fr. Paolo offers a beautiful insight. Caesar's image is stamped on a coin, but whose image is stamped on our souls?

God's!

We are created in His image and likeness. So giving God what belongs to Him means offering something far greater than our money. It means giving Him our entire lives, including our choices, relationships, freedom, and love.

Faith, Finances, and Finding Time for God

Fr. Jonathan takes the conversation in a practical direction. If we're called to be generous, we need to be intentional with our finances. Having a budget and financial plan isn't just responsible stewardship; it can help us make room for generosity.

But there's another resource we often struggle to give God: our time.

Fr. Jonathan reminds us that Sunday rest isn't optional background noise in a busy life. It's an opportunity to worship, reconnect with loved ones, and slow down enough to experience real joy.

And at the heart of it all is the Eucharist, where we offer back to the Father the greatest gift He's given us: His Son.

Living What We Believe

This Sunday's second reading (1 Thessalonians 1:1–5b) celebrates faith, love, and hope in action. These virtues help us return our hearts to God, not just on Sundays, but every day.

So before heading to Mass, consider: Are you giving God your leftovers, or your whole heart?
