Becoming the great mystic we know him as today, St. Joseph's most remarkable legacy are the reports of his physically flying, literally levitating. In great ecstasies, notably during the Mass or at the mention of Christ, St. Joseph apparently would be awakened to the supernatural and soar through the air in reverent posture. As a testament to his whole life, St. Joseph of Cupertino is regarded today as the patron Saint of aviators, astronauts, students, and the mentally handicapped.
