Not to be confused with Judas Iscariot, St. Jude Thaddeus was also one of the 12 apostles first chosen by Jesus to follow Him. Known popularly as the patron saint of hopeless, lost, or desperate cases, St. Jude is often invoked when things seem helpless. For this reason, the terminal children's hospital, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, is dedicated to his care in Memphis, Tennessee. St. Jude earns his patronage from the voice of hope he gives after stating the seemingly impossible state of the world in Scripture.
