Become What You Behold: Seeing the Father in Christ

This Sunday’s Gospel invites us into the very heart of Jesus’ relationship with the Father—and challenges us to live it too.

In the Fifth Sunday of Easter, the readings pull back the curtain on what it means to belong to Christ not just externally, but interiorly.

Here’s what stands out:

  • The Church needs both holiness and structure (Acts 6:1–7): As the early Church grows, the apostles appoint helpers to care for overlooked widows. A reminder that sanctity thrives with good systems in place.
  • You are a living stone (1 Peter 2:4–9): Christ is the cornerstone, and we are being built into a spiritual house. The Church isn’t just where we go it’s who we are becoming.
  • “I am the way, the truth, and the life” (John 14:6): Jesus doesn’t just show us the Father He reveals Him completely. “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father” (John 14:9).

Fr. Sam Rosko zeroes in on a powerful moment: when Philip asks, “Show us the Father.” Jesus’ response is both stunning and personal you already have.

What does that mean for us?

It means the Christian life isn’t about vague imitation it’s about deep transformation. As Fr. Rosko puts it, the goal is nothing less than this:
To become like Christ in our interior life.

That happens through:
Trusting and seeking the Father’s will with love
Practicing humility, emptying ourselves as Christ did
Loving sacrificially, giving ourselves for others

And all of it flows from one source: a rich life of prayer.

Jesus’ constant union with the Father isn’t just theology it’s an invitation. Through the sacraments and daily prayer, we begin to share in that same relationship.
