What keeps us moving forward when faith feels difficult, routine, or distracted? Corpus Christi reminds us that Jesus never stops feeding us along the journey.
This Sunday's celebration of Corpus Christi invites us to marvel once again at one of the greatest gifts Christ has given His Church: His true presence in the Eucharist.
In the Gospel, Jesus leaves no room for ambiguity:
“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life” (John 6:54).
While many Christians view Communion as symbolic, Catholics recognize these words for what they are—a profound invitation into real communion with Christ Himself.
The Journey Matters
Fr. Dufresne reflected on the remarkable story of Fr. Peter of Prague, a priest who struggled with doubts about the Eucharist. Hoping to strengthen his faith, he made a pilgrimage to Rome. On his journey home, while celebrating Mass in Bolsena, a consecrated Host miraculously began to bleed. That Eucharistic miracle eventually led Pope Urban IV to establish the feast of Corpus Christi for the entire Church.
What stands out isn't just the miracle—it's the perseverance.
Fr. Peter didn't quit when faith felt difficult. He kept walking. He kept praying. He kept celebrating Mass.
That same theme appears in the first reading (Deuteronomy 8). The Israelites wandered through the desert facing hunger, thirst, and countless trials. Yet God continually provided manna, water, and healing along the way.
An Invitation to Renew Our Intention
One of Fr. Dufresne's most practical insights was the importance of intention.
Whether we're attending Mass, praying a rosary, or sitting quietly before the Blessed Sacrament, distractions are inevitable. But distractions don't have to be failures. Instead, each distraction becomes an opportunity to return to our purpose:
"Lord, I'm here to be with You."
The Christian life isn't about never getting distracted. It's about continually turning back toward Christ.
Corpus Christi reminds us that Jesus is relentlessly intentional about us. He went all the way to the Cross so that He could remain with us in the Eucharist and feed us with the grace we need to become saints.
