You Are the Light of the World

Jesus revealed Himself as the Light… now He’s handing you the torch.

This Sunday’s readings are positively luminous, calling us out of comfort and into mission. Fr. Christian Raab joined the pod this week (while under the weather, no less!) to unpack the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time, and wow—he dropped some epiphany-level insight.

Here’s what we’re lighting up this week:

Isaiah 58 makes worship refreshingly practical:
Share your bread with the hungry
Shelter the oppressed
Clothe the naked
• Refuse to ignore those in need
Holiness isn’t hidden. It’s revealed when justice and mercy show up in everyday life.

Psalm 112 reminds us that “the just man is a light in darkness to the upright”—even if the Responsorial Psalm response doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. (We’re looking at you, “for the upright.”)

📖 1 Corinthians 2 brings the mic drop… without the mic drop. Paul didn’t rely on eloquence or flash, just the humble power of Jesus Christ crucified. Weakness, he says, isn’t a flaw in the system. It’s where grace shines brightest.

Matthew 5:13–16 brings the heat:
“You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others” (Matthew 5:13–16).
Fr. Raab connected this Gospel to the entire Epiphany season and the Luminous Mysteries. Jesus was revealed to the world, and now He reveals our mission—to carry that light outward.

“It’s the move from contemplation to action,” he said.
“We’ve beheld the Light… now we are the light.”
