What are you building with your life? This week’s feast reminds us: you’re part of something way bigger than you think.
This Sunday we celebrate a feast day for a building: the Dedication of the Lateran Basilica, also called the Pope’s Cathedral and the “mother church” of the Roman Catholic world.
Here’s what we’re building on this week:
-
Ezekiel’s Temple Vision (Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12): Water flows from the Temple, turning salty seas into freshwater, bearing fruit and healing for all. It’s an image of God’s presence giving life to the world. Think spiritual aquarium—thriving, vibrant, sacred.
-
Paul’s Foundation Talk (1 Cor 3:9c-11, 16-17): You are God’s building! Christ is the foundation, and each of us is a sacred temple. Paul warns us: treat this holy space (ourselves and others) with care or face the divine consequences.
- Jesus Cleans House (Jn 2:13-22): In a fiery moment of holy zeal, Jesus drives out the merchants from the temple. But here’s the twist: He points to His body as the true temple, promising its resurrection in three days. The building is sacred, but even more sacred is the body of Christ and, by extension, His Church—you and me.
Fr. Dufresne shares a beautiful vision for the Church as a spiritual cathedral made of “living stones,” which means us. Drawing on a story from Fr. Meyer, he reminds us that our daily tasks (whether laying bricks or praying 15 minutes a day) matter deeply when we see the bigger picture. It’s not just about doing the work; it’s about knowing why we’re doing it.
