He Was There the Whole Time

What if the reason Scripture feels confusing is because we’re reading it without walking with Jesus?

The Third Sunday of Easter gives us one of the most beloved resurrection stories: the Road to Emmaus (Luke 24). Two disciples are walking, confused and discouraged… and Jesus is right beside them, unrecognized. Sound familiar?

Here’s what stood out from this week’s episode:

God’s plan was always at work (Acts 2)
Peter boldly proclaims that Jesus’ death wasn’t random, it was part of a divine plan fulfilled in the Resurrection.

We weren’t saved by “temporary things” (1 Peter 1:18–19)
Not silver or gold, but the precious blood of Christ, the spotless Lamb.

Scripture makes sense in relationship
As Fr. McCarthy explains, the disciples couldn’t understand what had happened… until Jesus walked with them and opened the Scriptures. It wasn’t just about information, it was about encounter.

“Were not our hearts burning within us?” (Luke 24:32)
That moment of recognition didn’t come through debate or proof, but in the breaking of the bread. The Eucharist reveals what our minds alone cannot.

One of the most powerful insights:
Scripture is like a love letter. It only fully makes sense when you know the author.

Trying to read the Bible without a relationship with Christ is like reading someone else’s mail. You might grasp the words, but you’ll miss the heart.

So this Sunday, don’t just analyze the readings. Walk with Jesus through them. Let Him explain. Let Him stay. Let Him break the bread.
